It’s an exciting time in Smyrna right now. Empty retail spaces are filling up, storefronts are being redone, new signage is going up, and there is construction all around us. Two particular hot spots are old favorite Smyrna Market Village on Atlanta Road, and the under-construction Olde Ivy Village on South Cobb Drive & East-West Connector. Here are just a few of the new spots that have recently opened, or are coming soon to our area!
Recently Opened:
To say there’s a lot happening in Smyrna Market Village right now is an understatement.
Buckhead Preparatory School. Buckhead Prep has moved into Smyrna Market Village and is officially opening for the first day of school on August 18th. Atlanta’s Award-Winning Preschool accepts students from 18 months to 7 years and specializes in helping children develop solid basic skills, including rapid-learn reading, handwriting and math with proven results year after year.
International City School of Ballet. They officially opened in Market Village at the beginning of June and are still accepting registration for their current term which runs August to May. This is a school that will enable serious young dancers to receive extensive training year-round while also being able to experience valuable performance opportunities. When driving through Market Village, glance up to the 2nd floor where The Little Gym used to be for a peek at the graceful dancers training. (And don’t panic, The Little Gym is not gone, just relocated to a nearby building).
Smyrna Cheer Academy. They opened in Market Village in May and hosted camps throughout the summer. They’re currently enrolling for tumbling classes (starting at 1 year) and for the All-Star teams (3 years – 18 years). In this first year, there are no tryouts for the All Star team, though there will be in future years. Any student enrolled this year will receive an automatic position on the All Star team next year.
Coming Soon:
Sprouts Farmers Market. Smyrna finally gets a “full service” natural and health food store! Located at the Olde Ivy Village development at South Cobb Drive & East West Connector, it will be near the decidedly unhealthy Krispy Kreme that recently opened. The opening is slated for Spring 2015.
Del Taco. Before there was Taco Bell, there was Del Taco, and it’s back. A new location on the East West Connector (also in Olde Ivy Village) will be joining its Cobb Parkway counterpart soon.
Zaxby’s. Coming to the corner of Atlanta Road and Spring Road. I known many of us are happy to see something happening with the old gas station turned “We Buy Gold” enterprise turned abandoned building on that corner. Birthday Cake Milkshakes and Zax Sauce for all! Now there’s just the tiny issue of the development on the opposite corner. Opening date is a bit of a mystery – one that even corporate could not help with, so we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for new signage with an opening date.
