Saturday

Smyrna Fresh Produce Market. 8am – 12pm. Smyrna First Baptist (Market Village).

Michaels Kids’ Club. 10am, 10:30, 11, 11:30. All Michaels locations.

Barnes & Noble Storytime. 11am. Akers Mill location.

Great Locomotive Chase 5K. 7:30am. The Kennesaw Grand Prix is a series of six running events in Kennesaw that take place between May and November. Each 5K (3.1 mile) race benefits a local foundation or charitable organization. The fast, flat and USATF-certified road race course begins and ends in downtown Kennesaw, looping through Swift-Cantrell Park on a paved asphalt trail. Complete four of the six races in 2014 and receive a commemorative hoodie. Benefits the Kennesaw Museum Foundation.

The Home Depot Kids’ Workshop. 9am – 12pm. Any Home Depot location. This drop-in style event allows your child to hammer, paint and build various items and is always held on the first Saturday of the month. Young children will require parental help. This month’s craft: A Wizard of Oz birdhouse.

Mutt Strutt. 10am – 3pm. Marietta First United Methodist Church, just off of Marietta Square.  Bring the entire family, including the dog, for a day of fun! Enjoy Bluegrass music, treats from the Food Trucks, Dachshund Races, the Kid Zone, Pet Parade, a costume contest and over 60 vendors. Parking and admission are free.

Taste of Kennesaw. 11am – 8pm. Downtown Kennesaw, 2829 Cherokee Street. Enjoy over 40 restaurants from the Kennesaw and Cobb County area. Plus beer garden, entertainment all day on the main stage,  huge children’s area with quad bungee, rock wall, inflatables, trackless train and more. Concert starts at 6pm. Admission is free. Tastes are $1 – $4.

Family Story Time. 2pm. Smyrna Public Library. These 30 minute thematic story times include stories, songs, and a related craft activity. Bring the whole family.

First Friday Art Walk. 5pm – 9pm. Marietta. Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour of the Historic Marietta Square’s eclectic art scene. Art galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and boutiques host artists within their businesses from 5pm to 9pm on the first Friday of every month, rain or shine. Look for a variety of the arts to be represented by painters, dancers, musicians, performers and other artisans along the sidewalks throughout the Square. The Marietta Museum of Art offers free admission during the art walk. 

Smyrna Public Safety Foundation’s Heroes Gala. 7pm. Smyrna Community Center, 200 Village Green Circle. Don’t miss this community-wide, volunteer effort by area residents and businesses that honors our fire and police heroes by setting aside one evening to celebrate these dedicated individuals who protect and serve our community 24/7. Proceeds from the Gala benefit the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation (SPSF), a 501(c)(3) organization that supports both the community and Smyrna’s Public Safety employees. The Gala provides 85% of the annual funding for the SPSF. Purchase tickets here.
