Friday

Smyrna Shop Hop. Various locations along Concord Road. All day Friday & Saturday. Get an early start on your holiday shopping…or just go to browse and see what is new at our great local shops! Grab a “passport” at any of the stores listed below and then visit each location to get it stamped. If you get your passport stamped from every shop, you’ll be entered to win a cash prize (1st: $1,000; 2nd: $500; 3rd: $250). You can pick up your passport at any stop, complete it in any order (over both days, or all in one day), and turn your completed passport in at any shop. In addition, each location will be offering a unique charm — they’re free if you purchase at least $10, or you can buy them for $3. More info here. This is an amazing way to discover and support our small business owners! The participating locations are: Vickery Hardware, Nest Gifts & Garden, Heart and Sole, Love Street Gifts, Going Gear, Rev Coffee, Jonquil Sporting Goods, Floral Creations,Wallpaper & Stuff, Nutrition King & Oasis. There is a map on the back of the passport so you can easily find each store.

North Georgia State Fair.  Jim Miller Park, Marietta. The largest fair in metro Atlanta features live music, free attractions and shows, farm animals, blue ribbon competitions & more. There are also games and rides on the Great James H. Drew Exposition midway– one of the largest carnival midways in the US. FREE CONCERTS this year include  Travis Tritt, Kenny Rogers & more! Admission: $7 for adults, free for kids 10 and under, ride tickets vary by day.

Michaels Kids’ Club. 10am, 10:30, 11, 11:30. All Michaels locations.

North Georgia State Fair.  Jim Miller Park, Marietta. The largest fair in metro Atlanta features live music, free attractions and shows, farm animals, blue ribbon competitions & more. Touch a Truck at Towne Center at Cobb. 10am – 4pm. It’s the 3rd Annual Touch-A-Truck event to benefit the Cobb County Safety Village. Family-friendly, fun and educational event for kids of all ages. Come explore police cars, SWAT trucks, fire engines, heavy construction vehicles, military vehicles, police helicopter and more. Great picture opportunity for the family too. $5 per person with a maximum of $20 per family. All proceeds to benefit the Cobb County Safety Village. 

Bark in the Park (a Smyrna Reads event). Tolleson Park, Smyrna. 11am – 2pm. “Smyrna Reads” Closing Event: Gather your human and/or canine family for a day in the park for food and fun. Bring your own lunch or indulge in delicious Food Truck fare. Enter your precious pooch in one or more fun contests. Or just relax and watch the show! Pet Contest categories include best trick, best costume, loudest bark, best human bark & more! Prizes will be awarded for each category. Register for contest categories on site

Barnes & Noble Storytime. 11am. Akers Mill location.

Picnic in the Park. East Cobb Park. 11am – 1pm. Bring your family and lawn chairs and enjoy a day in the park. There will be food, entertainment and fun. Celebrate 30 years of Keep Cobb Beautiful. The main playground equipment has reopened! This is a free event.

2nd Annual Jitterbug-a-palooza! Jitterbug Performing Arts, Smyrna. 2pm – 5pm. Join Jitterbug Performing Arts for FREE class demos, facepainting, ballon animals, jungle maze, storytime, food, raffles & special character guests. Jitterbugpalooza is a fundraiser for Jitterbug Performing Arts. Some activities will require tickets, tickets are being sold for $1/each.

Brazilian Day Festival. Mable House Complex, Mableton. 2pm – 10pm. The Brazilian Day Festival Atlanta is a cultural event in Atlanta with the goal of exposing the residents to the rich Brazilian culture.  The BDFA has become the largest celebration of its kind in Atlanta.  Festival attendees are treated a first hand look at the diverse Dance, Music, Theater, and Cuisine of Brazil.  The BDFA Mission is to expose and educate attendees on the Brazilian culture while providing networking and development opportunities to the festival’s artists and exhibitors. Admission is $5 for adults, free for children under 12.

Whole Hawg Happenin’ BBQ and Music Fest. Marietta Square. 11am – 6pm. The Whole Hawg Happenin’ BBQ and Music Fest is an annual food and music festival focusing on the great BBQ of the South. This family-friendly event is now being held on the Marietta Square. Sample tasty BBQ and a variety of other foods; Large kids corner; Live entertainment by Lauren St. Jane, Roger Hurricane Wilson and the Walker School Band; Beer Garden & Food Court. Admission and parking are free. Tastes of BBQ will range from $.50 – $5.00 from the best of metro Atlanta’s restaurants.

Sunday Funday at East Cobb Park. Marietta. 3pm – 6pm. Friends for the East Cobb Park invites you to a Halloween themed Sunday Funday on September 28 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM. Bring chairs, blankets and a picnic, if you wish, to enjoy activities for children. Additional parking is available at Fuller’s Park. If possible, please consider walking, biking or carpooling to the park. For your own safety as well as the safety of others, please don’t park along Roswell Road.
