Special Events

Document Shredding, 9am – 12pm, Aline Wolfe Adult Recreation Center, 884 Church Street, Smyrna. Do a little fall cleaning and clear out those old papers at this shredding event sponsored by Keep Smyrna Beautiful.

Southern Museum, Museum Day Live, 9:30 – 5pm, Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, Kennesaw. On Saturday, September 26, as part of the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum Day Live! annual event, Kennesaw’s Southern Museum will offer free admission to the museum for participants who register online. TheMuseum Day Live! ticket provides free admission for two people and can be obtained by registering online atsmithsonianmag.com/museumday.

North Georgia State Fair, 10am – midnight, Jim R. Miller Park, Marietta. Head out to the largest fair in metro Atlanta, featuring live music, free attractions and shows, farm animals, flower shows, blue ribbon competitions, local entertainment, and delicious fair foods. There are also games and rides on the Great James H. Drew Exposition midway– one of the largest carnival midways in the United States, featuring the Wildcat Rollercoaster and the Georgia Mountain Lift. Free Concerts: A covered arena guarantees concerts rain or shine. Headlining this year are: Danny Gokey on Fri., Sept. 25; Mark Wills on Sat., Sept. 26; Montgomery Gentry on Wed., Sept. 30; Dustin Lynch on Thurs., Oct. 1; Kellie Pickler on Fri., Oct. 2; Eric Paslay on Sat., Oct. 3; All concerts begin at 8 p.m. Concerts FREE with fair admission.

Cobb County Touch-a-Truck, 10am – 3:30pm, Town Center Mall (near Sears). $5/person, $20 family max. Proceeds benefit Cobb County Safety Village. A family-friendly, fun and educational event for kids of all ages. Includes an incredible variety of vehicles including: Police Cars, SWAT Trucks, Fire Engines, Heavy Construction Vehicles, Dump Trucks, Military Vehicles and a Police Helicopter.

Worldwide Day of Play Sparkles Kennesaw, 12:30pm – 3:30pm, Kennesaw Location. Celebrate and get active Saturday, September 26th during Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play at Sparkles. We are giving FREE ADMISSION to those 10 and younger from 12:30pm – 3:30pm. Plus Spongebob and Dora will be here, so don’t forget your cameras.

Saturday Family Craft: Make Cards for Veterans, 3pm – 5pm, Switzer Library. The final Saturday in September your help is needed to make cards for U.S. military veterans! We will provide the supplies and we need you to provide the imagination and creativity to make some wonderful cards that will be sent to veterans for Veterans Day on November 15. Join us at 3 p.m. and be prepared for glitter and glue!

Michaels Kids’ Club. 10am, 10:30, 11, 11:30. All Michaels locations. Drop in and create a craft (themes vary by week). $2 for 30 minutes + supplies. Recommended age: 3+. This week’s theme: Candy Corn Banner

Jitterbug Performing Arts. In addition to their ongoing classes, Jitterbug offers several drop in classes per week. This Saturday’s schedule is:
9:30am – Storytime (Interactive storytelling for ages 18 months+) $5
11am – Storytelling Workshop (Flux classes are for those potty trained – 8 years old) $15

Free Junior Chef Classes at Williams-Sonoma. The Avenue at East Cobb. 10am. Theme – Make Dinner for the Family. Ages 5-13.

Whole Hawg Happening BBQ and Music Fest, 11am – 6pm, Marietta Square. The Whole Hawg BBQ and Music Fest is an annual food and music festival focusing on the great BBQ of the South. Admission and parking are free. Tastes of BBQ will range from $.50 – $5.00 from the best of metro Atlanta’s restaurants. Large kids area!
