Weekend Fun, October 10 – 12


Friday

Spectrum Storytime at Smyrna Public Library. 10:30am – 11am. Designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Spectrum Story Time includes several sensory integration activities and a story for children and their caregiver. Class is limited to 8 children. For children 3 – 6 years old. Registration required – limited to 8 kids. Please call 770-431-2860 ext 3 to register or for more information.

Eastminster Presbyterian Church Fall Festival (BBQ Only on Fri, Festival on Sat). 12pm – 8pm.  3125 Sewell Mill Rd., Marietta. Fall Festival is a yearly open house to the community. Festivities start Friday with the men’s famous BBQ, and continue Saturday. Saturday’s festivities feature kids’ crafts and games, bouncy houses, pony rides, a petting zoo, cake walk, face-painting, silent auction, bake sale and book sale. A host of crafters round out the day with a wide variety of homemade items ranging from jewelry to flower arrangements to artwork and everything in between. 

Cobb County Book Sale. 9am – 5pm. Jim Miller Park, Marietta. Materials for sale include books for all ages in both hardcover and paperback, DVDs, Books on CD and Audiocassette, and magazines. Prices range from 10 cents to $4.00. There is plenty of free parking. Cash and checks only. On Friday until 1 pm electronic devices are not permitted. While we hope you will buy lots of materials, we are only able to sell up to 2 boxes of items at a time on Friday until 1 pm. Please plan to pay and take items to your vehicle before coming in to shop some more. On Sunday we will be working to sell out the exhibit halls so please come to buy, buy, buy. All profits from this sale go directly to buying more items for the 16 libraries in the Cobb County Public Library System.

Saturday

Smyrna Fresh Produce Market. 8am – 12pm. Smyrna First Baptist (Market Village).

Michaels Kids’ Club. 10am, 10:30, 11, 11:30. All Michaels locations.

Marietta ChalkFest. 10am – 5pm. Marietta Square and down Atlanta St in front of Marietta Museum of Art. Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art presents its annual chalk art festival. This year, ChalkFest has been expanded to feature over 40 contracted, professional chalk artists who will draw in front of spectators each day from 10am to 5pm. All works created during ChalkFest will be completed at the end of Sunday. On Saturday artists of all ages are invited to participate in the annual juried chalk competition. Participants will have the opportunity to create original works in randomly selected sidewalk squares. 2014 will offer both a youth division and an adult division: Cash prizes will be awarded. The festival will also include a concert in the park featuring live music performed by Prime.

Fall-O-Ween Fest and Outdoor Movie (Goonies). 5pm. Swift-Cantrell Park, Kennesaw. For one night only, Swift-Cantrell Park will be transformed into “Spook-Central Park”. Come dressed in your best Halloween digs and showcase your cool moves during a MONSTER MASH DANCE PARTY from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. Zombie judges will be roaming the dance floor, awarding prizes every half-hour to their favorite costumed participants. Activities will also include inflatables and amusements, carnival games, a Trick-or-Treat Trail, children’s crafts, and impressive pumpkin displays. After sundown, the City of Kennesaw’s 2014 Outdoor Movie Series concludes with a FREE screening of The Goonies (Rated PG). Bring a blanket or low-back chairs. Concessions will be available for purchase.
