Friday

Tax Free Weekend Begins. Tax exempt items include clothing with a sales price of $100 or less per item, computers and computer software priced $1,000 or less per item and school supplies priced $20 or less per item.

Glover Park Concert Series. 8pm, Glover Park. Enjoy music under the stars and be sure to bring a picnic and blankets or set up your lawn chairs after 4pm (no tarps or tents). Personal tables can be set up in the street on North Park Square after 6pm but not in Glover Park. The free outdoor concerts take place at 8pm rain or shine. Music by Electric Avenue (80’s Hits).

Special Events

Bank of America Museums on Us. Bank of America customers get free museum admission to participating museums, science centers, botanical gardens and more during the first full weekend of each month. Local museums include: Atlanta History Center, High Museum of Art, Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the Tellus Science Museum.

UGA Cobb Extensions Family Fun Day at Green Meadow Preserve.  8am – 2pm, 3780 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs. This fun family event is the finale of Horticulture/Agriculture Awareness Week. Start off the day with the 8:00am tour of the Blue Bird Habitat Trail, followed by fun activities and outdoor classes at 10:00am. Visit the community garden, orchard, period garden and the Cherokee garden. You can also visit the bee hives, see the frog jump and try edible insects. Bring the whole family and your picnic lunch. There will be a corn roast, watermelon stand and food trucks.

Home Depot Kids Workshop. 9am – noon, all Home Depot locations. This free workshop is designed for children ages 5-12. All children will get to complete a themed craft, receive a certificate, an apron and a pin (while supplies last). This week’s craft: Chalkboard door hanger.

Saturday Morning Live! 9:30am and 11am, Strand Theatre. The Earl Smith Strand Theatre is offering a series of free live performances for kids on Saturday mornings. The Saturday Morning Live series runs every Saturday through July. Saturday Morning Live is always free for everyone to attend, so bring the whole family! This week: Enjoy a batch of lighthearted fun for the whole family in this whimsical adaptation of The Fisherman’s WifeThe Three WishesThe Little Red Hen, and The Gingerbread Boy. You’ll meet Redina, a mixed-up chicken with a passion for chocolate chips; Gripe and Bicker, two monstrous friends who together must decide how to use three wishes; and a greedy wife whose plans don’t quite pan out.

Sibley Public Library Summer Reading Finale Party. 5pm – 7pm. Switzer Library, Marietta. Join us for an afternoon of fun, games, storytellers, music, crafts, food trucks, and more! Our annual End of Summer Reading Celebration is sure to be a blast. All ages are welcome!

Happy Birthday, Smyrna!  6pm – 10pm, Village Green. The annual happening is tons of fun with fireworks at the end. High-energy music, festival foods, birthday festivities, a giant birthday cake by McEntyre’s Bakery and a kids entertainment area add to the excitement. Music by Wesley Cook, followed by Banks and Shane.

Remember When Rock was Young. 8pm, The Mable House. The South Cobb Arts Alliance and Atlanta Pops Orchestra will present Craig A. Meyer in “Almost Elton John: Remember when rock was young.” $50 for a table, $25-$35 for terrace seats, $15 for lawn.

Michaels Kids’ Club. 10am, 10:30, 11, 11:30. All Michaels locations. Drop in and create a craft (themes vary by week). $2 for 30 minutes + supplies. Recommended age: 3+. This week’s theme: Rain stick.

Jitterbug Performing Arts. In addition to their ongoing classes, Jitterbug offers several drop in classes per week. This Saturday’s schedule is:
10am – Storytime (Interactive storytelling for ages 18 months+) $5
11am – Master puppeteers (Flux classes are for those potty trained – 8 years old) $15

Free Junior Chef Classes at Williams-Sonoma. The Avenue at East Cobb. 10am. Theme – Cooking with tomatoes. Ages 5-13.

Barnes & Noble Storytime. 11am. Cumberland location.
