Local Thanksgiving Events

We published our Holiday Events Listing nice and early for the planners…and those who already have their Pandora Christmas station blasting (you know who you are!), but it’s time to give Thanksgiving some much needed love. Here is a combo post — you’ll get all of the Thanksgiving-specific events happening near us, plus the usual Weekend Fun activities. Did we miss anything? Wednesday, November 18

Cobb County Public Library System, Various Locations and times.
The Cobb County Libraries have many Thanksgiving-themed storytimes this week. Check their full listing to see what’s happening at the branch nearest to you & to check on the appropriate ages for each session. Note also that some story times are cancelled for Thanksgiving week (again, check the link provided for info) and they’ll be closed for Thanksgiving and the following Friday.

Smyrna Public Library. Movers and Shakers storytime at 10:30, 11:30 and 4 will be Thanksgiving themed.

 

Thursday, November 19

The Southern Museum Mommy & Me class.  Kennesaw. 10am and 11:30am. Thanksgiving Time (exploring Thanksgiving traditions).

 

Friday, November 20

Tiny Tots Smyrna Thanksgiving Skate, Sparkles Roller Rink, Smyrna. 10am – 1pm.
$5 admission/$3 lunch. Parent cookie swap, Thanksgiving themed crafts, plus the usual ride-on toy fun!

Tiny Tots Kennesaw Thanksgiving Skate, Sparkles Roller Rink, Kennesaw. 10am – 1pm. $5 admission/$3 lunch. Decorate your own cookies, bounce house, plus the usual ride-on toy fun!

Winter Wonderland, Marietta Square, Opens November 20. Includes open air ice skating rink, tree lighting, Santa’s Workshop and more through the new year.

 

Saturday, November 21

Greenberg’s Great Train and Toy Show, 10am – 4pm, Cobb Galleria. Show features Hundreds of Tables of Trains for Sale, Exhibitors from Across the Country, Huge Operating Model Train Displays, Free Workshops and Demonstrations, Door Prizes and Giveaways. $7 if purchased in advance, $9 at the door, children under 12 free. Admission good for both days!

Barnes & Noble Storytime, 11am, Akers Mill Location. Join the staff for stories and crafts. This week’s theme: The Little Kids’ Table

Santa Arrives at Cumberland Mall, noon.

Monday, November 23

Jitterbug Performing Arts Thanksgiving Break Camp. Regular session 9am – 1pm, extended session 9am – 4pm. Theme: Coming to a New World. Learn the story of how the Pilgrims journeyed across the big, wide ocean to come to America! This day of camp is going to be filled with fun history, Pilgrim crafts, singing, dancing, and creative skits!

Drop In Thanksgiving Crafts, Smyrna Public Library. 10am – 8pm. Out of school this week? Come into the Library to stock up on books, audiobooks and movies for the break. Stop by the library any time Monday through Wednesday to make a Thanksgiving craft!  Crafts will be available in the Children’s area of the Library.  Library closed Thursday and Friday.

 

Tuesday, November 24

Jitterbug Performing Arts Thanksgiving Break Camp. Regular session 9am – 1pm, extended session 9am – 4pm. Theme: Explore Folklore. Get a glimpse into American Indian culture by celebrating their rich history of storytelling through song, dance, and inventive crafts! We will also use our camper’s creative imaginations to write and perform some of their own folklore!

Drop In Thanksgiving Crafts, Smyrna Public Library. 10am – 8pm. Out of school this week? Come into the Library to stock up on books, audiobooks and movies for the break. Stop by the library any time Monday through Wednesday to make a Thanksgiving craft!  Crafts will be available in the Children’s area of the Library.  Library closed Thursday and Friday.

 

Wednesday, November 25

Jitterbug Performing Arts Thanksgiving Break Camp. Regular session 9am – 1pm, no extended session offered today. Theme: Give Thanks. What is your Jitterbug thankful for?
Taking time to remember all of the wonderful things in our lives is the most important part of Thanksgiving. Come have fun with us while we answer that question with some
bite-sized crafts, activities, and more!

Drop In Thanksgiving Crafts, Smyrna Public Library. 10am – 6pm. Out of school this week? Come into the Library to stock up on books, audiobooks and movies for the break. Stop by the library any time Monday through Wednesday to make a Thanksgiving craft!  Crafts will be available in the Children’s area of the Library.  Library closed Thursday and Friday.

 

Thursday, November 26

Marietta Gobble Jog, Marietta Square. 10K starts at 7:30am.
Run wild for a great cause at the annual Gobble Jog on Thanksgiving day in Marietta. The event benefits MUST Ministries and features a 10K run, a 5K run/walk, a 1K run/walk, and a tot trot (for kids 5 and under). The Gobble Jog 10K is certified as a qualifier for seeding in the Peachtree Road Race. Not a runner? They are looking for volunteers too!

Cities of Smyrna, Marietta and Kennesaw are closed Thursday and Friday.
