Taylor-Brawner Park with Art

The second annual Taylor Brawner Park with Art is kicking off tomorrow night (April 10) with an opening reception from 6 – 9pm. It’s your first chance to mix and mingle with the artists while enjoying light refreshments. The exhibit will then open daily from April 11-April 19, noon-6pm. Each day, a specific artist will be highlighted and will be at the exhibit demonstrating their craft and answering your questions.

{All art showcased in this article will be featured at this year’s exhibit and are included here with permission.}

Taylor-Brawner Park with Art began last year when the Taylor-Brawner House Foundation approached the events coordinator for Brawner House and Smyrna Community Relations about bringing more art and cultural events to Smyrna. From that, Park with Art was born, with the goal of showcasing regional and local artists in an event that is part traditional exhibit, part “show” with each artist given the opportunity to demonstrate their craft during the exhibit.

Last year’s initial event was such a success that it was decided to make it an annual event. This year it has been expanded with 7 additional artists and a wider variety of art forms, including weaving, woodcutting, woodturning, and more. The artists all have ties to our area and in many pieces you can see how our beautiful community has influenced their work.

I have lived in Smyrna for almost 10 years and am still not sure how I managed to find a job more chaotic and unpredictable than advertising.
